The legal stuff
Last updated 24 September 2026 · By joining a crew, chatting, or using OFFLINE, you agree to all of this.
What OFFLINE is
OFFLINE turns real life into a quest game: join a crew with a friend's code, do real-world quests together, snap a photo, and an on-device check looks at it before you earn points on a shared leaderboard. It's built by one student, not a company.
Who can use it
You must be 13 or older to use OFFLINE (U.S. children's privacy law — COPPA). If you're under 18, get a parent or guardian's okay first. If we learn someone under 13 is using OFFLINE, we'll remove their crew data.
Real-world quests — use your judgment
Quests send you to do things in the real world, with your crew, often outside. OFFLINE is a game — not a safety app, not a supervisor, and not a guarantee any quest is right for you. Follow the law and your family's rules, don't trespass, skip anything that feels unsafe, and use your own judgment. You're responsible for your own safety and choices while playing.
The AI photo check — what it actually does
When you submit a quest photo, the check runs entirely on your own device — it looks at things like brightness, color, and how outdoorsy the image looks, and returns a pass/fail with a confidence score. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — your photo never leaves your phone or browser. This is a simple on-device heuristic, not trained computer vision, and it isn't perfect — it can be wrong in either direction. Don't treat a "verified" result as proof of anything beyond "this looked plausible to a basic check."
Some crewmates are bots, at first
When your crew is small, OFFLINE fills empty spots with simulated accounts (bots) with their own names, so the leaderboard and chat aren't empty. Bots step aside as real people join, and the app shows how many real crewmates you actually have — don't assume every name you see is a real person, especially at first.
Microphone & camera
The voice room asks for microphone access to drive its on-screen mic indicator. Real-time audio between crewmates isn't fully turned on yet, so joining the voice room today does not transmit your voice to anyone else. The quest camera asks for camera access only to take the photo described above, processed on your device and never uploaded.
Don't share sensitive info
Don't put passwords, financial details, medical information, your real address, or anyone else's personal information into your tag, your profile, or crew chat. Crew chat is visible to everyone in your crew. Anything you share is at your own risk.
Acceptable use
No harassment, hate speech, threats, impersonation, or illegal/sexual/dangerous content in chat, voice, your tag, or your photo. No hacking, scraping, or spamming crew codes, and no trying to break the leaderboard or points system. We can remove content, remove you from a crew, or block you from OFFLINE at our discretion.
"As is," no warranty, limits on liability
OFFLINE is provided "as is" and "as available," with no warranty of any kind — no promise it's always up, accurate, bug-free, or secure. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any damages, injuries, or losses arising from your use of OFFLINE, including anything that happens during a real-world quest. If liability is found anyway, it's limited to the amount you paid to use OFFLINE, which is nothing.
You cover us
If your use of OFFLINE — including anything you do on a quest, anything you post, or a rule you break — causes a claim, complaint, or cost against us, you agree to cover it (indemnify and hold us harmless) to the extent the law allows.
Disputes
Disagreements about these terms are settled by individual binding arbitration rather than in court, except you can always use small-claims court. You and OFFLINE each waive the right to a class action or jury trial. These terms are governed by U.S. law.
Privacy — what's actually collected
Stays on your device, never sent anywhere: your chosen avatar or uploaded profile photo, and your quest photos (checked on-device, then discarded).
Sent to our backend (Supabase) so your crew works across devices: your display name/tag, a random per-browser ID (not your real identity), your points/quests-done/streak, your crew code, and any chat messages you send — visible to your crewmates.
We host on Cloudflare Pages and use Supabase as our database. We don't sell your data and don't run ad trackers.
Deleting your data: "Reset everything" (in your profile) instantly wipes your name, avatar, streaks, and cached chat from your own device. It does not yet automatically delete your crew membership or chat history from our server — that's a real gap, not a false promise. Email us and we'll delete your server-side data by hand.
Changes & the fine print
We can update these terms any time; continuing to use OFFLINE means you accept the current version. If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
